Wabi-Sabi visual poetry

Wabi sabi is a worldview and philosophy with origins in Japan. It is a concept that embraces the perfection of imperfections, finding beauty in simplicity and experiencing the spiritual richness in what is. It is through this aesthetic that one is inspired to experience tranquillity, inner spaciousness, and harmony with nature.

From appreciating the textures of decaying walls to witnessing the play of light through the trees, life is a reminder that poetry is all around us. And that every moment is transient. Finding solace in the impermanence adds depth to the seemingly meaningless and mundane. RnR, a creative studio that is inspired by Zen-influenced design and arts and shares ‘It is about saying more with less.’ The focus is on being effortless and minimal, with strong intention governed by some basic principles

1/ Fukinsei (不均整) : Asymmetry and irregularity. Creating balance and harmony through imbalance.

2/ Kanso (簡素) : Simplicity. Using only what is necessary, honest and clear.

3/ Shibumi (渋味) : Beautifully understated. Humble and elegant in expressing the essence.

4/ Shizen (自然) : Natural and effortless. Intentional and purposeful spontaneity.

5/ Yugen (幽玄) : Suggestive subtlety. Suggesting meaning through the concept of emptiness.

6/ Seijaku (静寂) : Stillness and solitude. Inspiring the meditative, contemplative, and calm.

Wabi Sabi visual poetry intends to inspire awakening, to cultivate presence, and to remind us that the beauty of life lies in the moment.
